A New Obsession

Last Sunday my neighbor Wayne took me out to the very fine Castle Hayne Disc Golf Course. He was kind enough to let me use his old disc bag and five of his discs. Well, let's say it was love at first flight. I guess that's a little strong. My first throw stunned my cold tricep so badly my hand went numb. But the rest of the round was a lot of fun. I made enough nice throws to keep my mood light even as I finished out my +52 round. Coincidentally, that was what Wayne posted the first time he played.

So, diving into the web to see what I can see, I came across the very fine Disc Golf Review site. It helped me decide which discs to pick up to start my own bag. Last night I picked up an 169g Aviar Putter in the glow plastic, and a 172g DX Roc at Play It Again Sports. They're a fairly drab pair of discs, but it's all about how they fly, right? I can't wait to put them through their paces.

I also found a local disc golf club site: New Hanover Disc Golf . These folks seem very well organized and should be a great resource in the future. Hopefully they can get the bond passed to put a disc golf course in Arrowhead Park behind our house. That would be insanely cool.

I'll post my thoughts about the discs soon.
